Here we have an immaculate condition example of the rather scares Vickers Berthier LMG. The Vickers Berthier or VB was manufactured by the Vickers Armstrong Company from 1925. It was primarily based on a French aircraft gun design from WW1. It was intended that the VB would replace the Lewis Gun and could be used aside with the Vickers produced heavy machine gun. The VB was in direct completion with the Czech Type Bren gun during the 1932 British Army Trials. The British Army adopted the Czech design that lead to the infamous Bren gun. The VB and the Bren use very similar mechanisms. They were also both air cooled and had quick removable barrels. However the Bren was lighter, easier to stow away and had a slightly slower rate of fire. The only main advantage of the VB was that it was slightly easier to produce and therefore cheaper and quicker to produce. Very early serial number of 240. Complete with deactivation certificate.
