Scarce WW1 French Model 1917 Flare Pistol
This is an immaculate example of a scarce Model 1917 First World War French flare pistol. These weapons were used for spotting and communication with artillery and saw common use on the battlefield with infantry and reserves. Often in the cacophony of battle these pistols would be the only method through which infantry could communicate with their support gunner and as such entire offensives could hinge on a well timed flare to call in support or bring reserves to the fight.
This pistol retains a remarkable amount of the original finish and has well preserved grips. With break action barrel and and crisp dry firing action this pistol is a remarkable example of First World War Era signal equipment as found throughout the trenches.
