This is an immaculate condition example of the scarce Coastguard pattern Percussion pistol. The Board of Ordnance ownership stamp and military inspector marks nicely compliments this example. The Setters Up (those who manufactured and fitted the wooden stock) name of ‘W. PARKER’ can be seen quite clearly, stamped upside down on the left hand side of the action. This is a particularly nice example with all visible stamps in both the metal and woodwork. It features the standard stirrup ramrod clasp and iron lanyard loop. The Lock is beautifully marked with TOWER and the royal VR Cipher. The British Coast Guard service was the primary tax enforcement of inbound duties, and patrolled the coasts against pirates, smugglers and those looking to avoid paying their dues. It has a large 28-bore barrel that would have been devastating at close range. It has a plain barrel with regulation brass mounts. A beautiful well balanced antique pistol.
